    • Talk about
      • FAMILY! The perfect verse that is wonderfully applicable to the theme of family!
      • Kindness. How can we display kindness? Pray for God to give us kind hearts.
      • Tenderhearted. What does tenderhearted mean? What are some ways we can be tenderhearted? Pray for God to give us tender hearts.
      • Forgiveness. What does forgiveness mean? We can forgive because of Jesus and His sacrifice for us!

  • Craft: B is for Blue Button (slide these sweet little pieces of artwork into a page protector and then in a 3 ring notebook to start creating a really sweet alphabet book! Please note the wear and tear on the example below! It is Andrew’s, my oldest son, and it’s about 3 years old. :))
    • INSTRUCTIONS
      • Cut out a B shape from heavyweight paper
      • Paint the B blue!
      • Sort out all the blue buttons from mommy’s random stash of buttons (Great color practice, sorting practice and fine motor skill practice!)
      • Glue the buttons to the B
      • This is also really cute! (B is for Bumblebee)
    • TALK ABOUT
      • Things that begin with the letter B. Make a list or draw pictures of the things you come up with.
      • Things that are BLUE.  Make a list or draw pictures of the things you come up with.

  • BIBLE STORY: Matthew 1: 1-17 
  • TALK ABOUT
    • Jesus had a family too! A mom, a dad, brothers and sisters, grandparents, great grandparents, great, great, great, great, great grandparents.
    • The importance of brothers, sisters, grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins. How they are each so special and so valuable and so worth our love and kindness.
    • The importance of kindness, sweetness and forgiveness is in our family.
  • APPLICATION & QUESTIONS TO ASK
    • Describe your family and all its members, extended family too! (List them out on a piece of paper!)
    • Describe how each member of the family is different, with different roles, gifts and abilities they each have.
    • Talk about how families are a gift! It’s like God gave us a big present when he gave us our family! Forever friends!
    • Talk about how we show love to our family members by praying for them, giving to them, and serving them.
    • List out ways we can show kindness, sweetness and forgiveness to our family members.
  • PRAY FOR
    • Family members to know and love Jesus
    • Jesus to give us power to love, serve and give to our family members

Activity 1

Make a family tree as far back as you can remember. Talk about and list grandparents and great grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins! Then, paint pictures of trees! Talk about how families are like trees, with lots of branches and deep roots.

Activity 2

Make cookies together. Then make cards for grandparents, aunts and uncles and cousins. Let them know how much you all love them! Package the cookies up with the card and send to your family.

Activity 3

Visit a retirement home, nursing home or hospital. Take flowers, cards, balloons or just big adorable smiles to those who may be missing their family and feeling the weight of loneliness. Talk about how we can bless others who might not have a family.
