My eyes are ever on the Lord, for only he will release my feet from the snare. Psalm 25:15
Our hearts are easily drawn away from who and what matters most, especially during the excitement of the holiday season. My prayer for this holiday season (and every day) is that Jesus would turn my heart back to Him, back to what He has called me to, back to what matters most.
And do not turn aside after empty things that cannot profit or deliver, for they are empty. 1 Samuel 12:21
I want a heart that chases after that which is truly profitable, not empty things.
I created the first Ashlee Proffitt Advent Calendar 5 years ago. I wanted a tangible reminder every day during the Advent Season about the true meaning of Christmas. I wanted to pursue the hearts of my children, more than I wanted to be caught up in the hustle of it all. I wanted to laugh and snuggle and pray and dance and the read the Bible together.
So this Advent Calendar was born. And this year it got a major makeover. I needed it to be even more functional. In years past it was a gorgeous decoration but we would often forget to do the daily Bible reading or plan an activity. I am forgetful. I needed the reminder RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME.
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.Deuteronomy 6:6-9
Apparently I am not the only forgetful one. In that passage, God is saying “I know you are so forgetful, so fill your every day with reminders of me.” I guess we are all forgetful. So I prayed and asked God to show me how to make this gorgeous product as functional as it was beautiful; to give me a way to get it before my eyes and your eyes every day of the Advent season.
And He did.
The Ashlee Proffitt Advent Calendar is now available as a beautiful tabletop calendar. Ours will sit on our kitchen island for the duration of the Advent Season. Right before my eyes. All day long.
25 days of Bible Passages and 25+ Activity Ideas to bring creativity and inspiration into your Christmas season. The Advent Calendar allows you to flip through the activities and find one that fits your day. We probably won’t do an activity every day and sometimes we will do more than one, but this calendar isn’t about checking off a task, but instead about being together and asking God to center our hearts on Him while we celebrate His birth and all that represents… and having so much fun while we do that very thing.
And this year we added something super special, an Advent Family Guide. A super simple daily devotion for you to do as a family.
The Advent Family Guide was written and developed by two pastors who desire to see families pursue Jesus this Christmas season. Aaron Proffitt & Ian Thomas worked together to create this Family Guide that is outlined into 4 themed weeks, with 27 days of reading beginning on Sunday, November 29th and ending on Christmas Day.
Each day includes:
A verse or a small section of Scripture to read together
A guiding question to help think about the passage
A short explanation and application section
My hope is that this Advent Calendar & Family Guide will turn all of our hearts to the true meaning of Christmas this holiday season.
